Hey,
I am getting a root canal soon on my front tooth and was wondering how much it costs and if my tooth will look black after it. Also, what happens in the first treatment?
Thanks
Root canal?
First of all the fees can vary greatly, but I can say that there is only 1 canal in the front teeth and it will cost less than a premolar or molar. It wouldn't hurt to call your dentist or other dentists in your area to find out.
Does your tooth look black now? If it doesn't look black now, it won't look black after the root canal. If it looks black now, it will look black after the root canal.
On the 1st treatment the Dr. will numb the gum of that tooth (I'm assuming it's a top tooth) and also the gum area inside, the part near the roof of your mouth. This will more than likely be the most painful part of the process.
Once the tooth is numb the Dr. will drill a small hole on the tongue side of your tooth. The next part of the procedure is quiet (no drilling) as the Dr. uses various tiny files to clean out the inside of the tooth called the canal. The Dr. will take x-rays of the tooth periodically through the procedure with the files still in place to make sure all is going well. At the end, the Dr. will either have finished the root canal and will fill the hole opening permanently, or if you need additional appointments, the Dr. will fill the hole with a temporary filling.
Once the root canal has been completed, most Dr. recommend having a cap put on the tooth. You will be able to discuss this with the Dr. and work out what works for you.
The reason for the cap is to give the tooth strength because it is no longer living and the tooth can become brittle and break.
Hope that helped. Good luck.
Reply:it costs around $1200/ tooth. it will definitely not look black. they are probably going to cover it with silver or cement and u cant tell the difference from real tooth to rootcanal tooth. however, its very very very painful... dont want to ever think about that sharp sharp pain.. u would never forget about that pain... good luck...
Reply:I had a root canal done on one of my front teeth almost 30 years ago. Didn't have to get a crown until last year. The tooth stood up really well.
