I am 16, and i have to have three root canals done, i've never tried it before.
could somebody please tell me what happens, when you have that done? how long does it take to have three of them done, and does it hurt more than getting a filling?
i'm scared.
Root canal?
dont sweat i just had 1 last week and i swearrrrrrrr there was no pain. just the needle for novacaine in the mouth is a little weird. ignore krazys comment. if you take nitrous gas and the shots for numbing you should feel no pain. also if you can take a valium before your appointment.
i would just do 1 at a time thou.
Reply:Oh my god I'm so sorry that hurts worse than anything else you can have done at a dentists. I'm not sure exactly what happens cuz I couldn't exactly watch, but it hurts really bad.
Reply:First thing relax you will be numb it takes about an hour for 3 you wont feel anything when the numbness wares off it will be a litttle bit of pain take a Tylenol you will be fine
Reply:You wont feel a thing from a rootcanal other than just uncomfortability. A normal rootcanal can take up to an hour if seen by a specialist. If General dentistry usually its a two part procedure with two weeks in between to make sure the infection is gone. It is someone what just like a filling but maybe less drilling time.
A rootcanal is a procedure where we take out the decay, infected nerve, clean out of the canals, seal the canals, and put a filling on top. most likely you will need a crown on each tooth too because after a rootcanal the tooth because brittle because we've taken out the blood supply of the tooth.
Reply:It's like a filling in that they're going to drill, you'll probably get injections to numb your nerves and gums, and then they fill the area. It's a 2 part thing, they will most likely have you come back in a week or two for part two, which is pretty much painless. I had my root canals (2 of them) and went back to work that day.
Reply:it is painful yes. I suggest have them put you out for three! That is allot to do in one sitting. Root canals are not fun but they take the nerve out of your gum. I had this done. It hurts yet when it is all over with within a few days you will be fine and dandy. Good luck.
Reply:it's really not that bad. you cant feel anything when your getting it done.. it might hurt after.. good luck
Reply:In my experience the root canal was a relief to have done due to the pain in my tooth prior to the procedure. Too many people like to scare you about root canals. Like most people have said here you get numb so there should be too much real pain. It's a bit uncomfortable that's all.
Reply:I have had problems with my tooth having a root canal after the fact. The crown came off...etc., a second dentist I spoke to didn't believe in root canals when i told him what happened with my tooth. After paying $3000 for the root canal, I winded up having it extracted for $100 causing the bad breath to go away after bacterial seeped in the crown. Not to scare you, but ask if there are any other choices you have before getting the three teeth done. It's expensive, not too uncomfortable to complete and may have to be done. Just make sure you get a second opinion before investing all the money.
Reply:It's not fun because they take a long time, it is no worse than getting a filling, except they do take a while to do. I don't recall any appreciable pain at all, but it is uncomfortable to have your mouth locked open for that long and of course you can't swallow. They give you control of the little vacuum so you can keep you mouth cleaned out so you don't have to swallow. It isn't a lot of fun, but I wouldn't get overly anxious about it.
Reply:dont worry !!!, its easy for destists these days to do a root canal.... i acually fell asleep for a second when my dentist did mine !!!, i also had one done about 10 yrs ago, and their was some pain then. but i wouldnt worry these days.. about an hour to do the root canal, then they put in a temporary filling and you will go back to have your tooth built back up with a new filling ad finally a third appoinment for a crown if you desire. that would be a total o 2-3 appointments for each root canal
