Root canal infection...treatment options?

Hello! I had root canal done 5 years ago. Now I went to a new dentist and I was told that I need a new root canal done because of an infection. A X-ray picture showed some white lines around the tooth in problem(I can't tell what it means...) I do have slight discomfort with that tooth time to time, but not enough to seek medical help. Is another root canal the only option? The new dentist, recommended by a neighbor, gave me a card to a root canal specialist.... What do you think? Thanks!

Root canal infection...treatment options?
Hello,

I had to have a retreatment after years, but I was given a choice weather to have an apicoectomy (the gum cut and infection cleaned out then stiches, or go in through the tooth again. Go take a look at two sites: One is, http://www.aae.org/patients/faqs/retxsum...

The other is an alternative view:

Alternative home remedy help, very effective:

Oil of Oregano is an antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal. Mix it with some Virgin olive oil and put on infected gum area, it also can be used as an anticeptic gargle, or the caps orally swallowed. It helped my root canal and gum surgery healing and pain almost immediately so I could get some sleep and speeded up and assured me of further infection, so you can use it for future and possibly avoid a repeat. I am multichemical sensitive and could not take pain killers, or Advil, and no perscriptions. This was a great alternative.

No side effects.

Good Luck. Cora.
Reply:It is often that a root canal needs to be repeated. The only other option is to have the tooth extracted. It is extremely possible that some seepage (bacteria and other debris) got into the root and is causing further disease.
Reply:You probably do.

I've had a similar problem. X-Ray showed infected area.

I thought that once you have a root canal done, that's it! and all should be OK. But was told by an endodontist it needs re-doing and I have to fork out more $$. Not happy :-((

Was thinking that the original procedure was not done thoroughly in the first place, but sometimes infections can come back.
Reply:This is a very expensive procedure to have it repeated again, depending on your age and the location of your tooth if its one of your back teeth I would have it extracted, remember the dentists will always recommend the most expensive as they can afford this and basically suck out the money from insurance company's

boots
