Root Canal?

I have to go in to the dentist tomorrow to get a root canal,..anybody ever have this done, im kinda afraid of the pain afterwards everybody ive talked to says it hurt real bad. whats your opinion?

Root Canal?
it hurts, but you won't feel anything after awhile.. take some pain meds right after consistently for a day or so so the major bulk wears off!
Reply:It shouldn't be painful afterwards. If it is take ibuprofen. Its an anti inflammatory and pain reliever.
Reply:I'm afraid it's all down to your dentist

If your lucky like me ul get a great one and you wont feel a thing...only if your not so lucky well...take a guess
Reply:Take the antibiotics given after your RCT (root canal treatment) is done. You probably have some residual infection afterwards.

Take the ibuprofen/motrin immediately after you get it. This way as the injection is wearing off, the pain medication is kicking in. RCT can make you sensitive but it's the infection that's causing most of the pain.

Remember to finish ALL of your antibiotics. Take your pain medication as needed.
Reply:I can answer this one with confidence. About 4 months ago I had 19 extractions and 2 root canals and let me tell you I would rather have a root canal than an extraction. I had absolutely no pain after each of my root canals. They froze the area, and felt no pain during the procedure or after. The worst part for me at least was the needle to freeze my gums. I am the biggest suck when it comes to the dentist, I was so afraid of the dentist I had not seen one in 22 years, reason why I had to have 19 extractions and 2 root canals. So if I had no pain I am sure you will be fine. Hope all goes well tomorrow and make sure you visit your dentist on a regular basis. Good Luck!!!!!!!
Reply:a root canal is a painless procedure that is done with local anesthesia. It is the removal of the nerve tissue that lies in the inside of the roots of the tooth. You shold not expierance any type of pain throughout this procedure. and afterwards. A little tenderness or a little soreness is totally acceptable. Any type of throbing or pressure type feeling after the root canal is started is not accepable and a phone call to the office is necessary. Good luck and you will do fine. Take some anti-inflammatory before you go to the appt.
Reply:for me the pain afterwards was almost non-existant. i went to an endodontist and they did a really good job. for me actually, the numbness lasted for about 7 hours because they gave me 4 shots, so i guess that's why i didn't feel much pain, because the numbness went for a long time. i didn't need any pain medication whatsoever.
