Root canal?

i had the first part of a root canal done on tooth #30. this tooth is already crowned, so he went through the crown. after the pain from it wore off i felt great. i had no more pain at all and was able to chew on it. went back on monday for the second part. he put another temp filling in and said i would come back in a week for the build up and permanent filling. i am now experincing pain in my gum area around that tooth and it hurts to chew on it again! what the @!#@?? also, why does he need to do a build up? i thought thats what you did to put a crown on, and since the tooth is already crowned, why would this be done? help!!

Root canal?
Kirsten,

I had the same thing! It turned out that the bite was not correct and that caused all the pain. Make sure they get the bite correct so it doesn't bear all the chewing and grinding. Also, my dentist gave me an antibiotic to kill any bacteria that built up inside the tooth/root area. As soon as the bite was correct I didn't feel any more pain, hopefully thats it for you!
Reply:you need to call the doctor. it meet be the roots need more treatment. im glad mine does it in one trestment. too riskey for 3 trestments to develop an infection or another cavitity,

build is is for the new crown.

i have been through this for so many times,

look up root canal in your google search.
Reply:I had that happen to me! The dentist kept saying I had a sinus infection and it would go away. After about a year the filling came out and all the pain was gone. I think there was an infection trapped in there. Tell dentist you believe something is wrong and will go somewhere else to have it checked out and then if he/she does not do anything go some where else, maybe just go some where else.
Reply:Root canals can be quite painful although in my opinion most people exaggerate the pain related to one. As they grind the nerve out of the tooth it often aggravates the nerve(s) below the gum line and under the tooth which could be what is causing the recent pain you are feeling. Then you claimed the tooth was crowned, that being the case who ever originally prepared the tooth for the crown has removed some of the structure of the tooth to fit that crown on which is why it must be built back up to its original condition(shape and size).
Reply:Your dentist is a quack!!! Are you positive that he did not remove the old crown? If he didn't remove the old one then there is no reason for this to be going on.
