Root canal?!?!?!?

getting one this weekend

wut should i expect?

does it hurt?

how long does it take?

Root canal?!?!?!?
After the root canal, the tooth itself should not hurt, but your mouth and jaw will, just from keeping it open for so long. All rrot canals differ on length. A front tooth usually has only one nerve canal so it takes less time to extract the nerve and fill the canal. On upper back molars you can have sometimes three canals and this can take longer, and be a little more extensive. Your should be completely numb or under general anesthesia when you have it done, so that will not hurt except for maybe the shot. You will also have some inflammation around the tooth area after the procedure just because the tooth was worked on. If your dentist has not prescribed you antibiotics yet, then he should for most root canals are needed because of an abcess or infection at the tip or apex of the root. Killing the infection will help with the pain! Sometimes they will also give you a Rx for an anit-inflammitory/ pain reliever. If not, tylenol, ibuprofen or other NSAID over the counter medicine should work.
Reply:If you have a good Dentist the process doesnt hurt....NOW when he sends you home with a prescription for pain pills....get it filled immediatly and take them right away then every 4 or 6 hrs whatever the dirctions say.....DO NOT allow the pain get ahead of the medication getting into your system. I know they tell you not to put heat on it but a heating pad soothed my jaw. Eat soft things for a while and drink cold drinks...do not eat or drink HOT things it might disrupt the blood clot and cause it start bleeding.

Good Luck!
