I need to be put under for a root canal. I have bad anxiety when it comes to this type of work. I live in the Seminole/St.pete Area in Florida. If you know of any dentist that can knock me out for this procedure please let me know.
DONT RESPOND IF YOU DONT HAVE A GOOD ANSWER. I DONT WANT TO HEAR OF WHY I WANT TO BE KNOCKED OUT.
Root Canal?
You might WANT to be "knocked out", but most endodontists don't do this. It represents an increased risk to the dental practice, extra training, equipment and personnel.
I know of a few dentists who use a mobile anesthesiologist. The doctor comes into the dental practice with all the equipment necessary, monitors the patient, administers the anesthesia, and bills the patient seperately for these services.
Not easy to find, however. The one I know works in the greater Seattle area.
Why not consider an oral sedation alternative, such as Halcion. Ask your dentist.
Reply:I had a root canal a few years ago, it's not as bad as people make it seem. Real easy. I was awake for mine, but I was under a lot of gas, damn, I love that stuff. The dentist was making really lame jokes and I was cracking up. I was so loud, my dad, who drove me, said they could hear me in the waiting room.
Reply:I have had three root canals in my dental history. I have not been knocked out either time, but my wife is very anxious like you, so here is what I suggest. Our dentist simply uses the gas before he works on her. When you make the appointment, just have them assure you that they will use the gas, and it will relax you so they can do the work. The procedure is not that bad. It is basically like a filling, but just takes a little longer to do, and you have to go back for a second time - sometimes a third (they have to make sure that the nerve has been removed from the tooth. Dentists typically don't knock their patients out because they would need an anethesiologist to do it. If the gas doesn't do the trick, then you may have to consult a dental surgeon or have the dentist put you in the hospital to do the work. That will cost a lot more to do, so why don't you have him try the gas??
