Root canal???????

is it really that painful??





and how can i prevent from ever having to get one??

I've had two root canals and hopefully I will never have to go through it again. They are really not fun. They're not as painful as you may think. They give you a shot to numb the area and you really don't feel anything after that. There's mainly pressure in the area but no pain. After the root canal's done they can prescribe you medication for the pain. I made sure to take a prescription strength Motrin right after I got out of the office. This helped me to not feel anything when the shot wore off. You can prevent root canals by taking good care of your teeth. Make sure to visit your dentist on a regular basis and take care of any cavaties you may have. You'll only need a root canal if you don't take care of your cavaties and the decay gets into the root. Make sure you floss and brush on a daily basis also. I think the fear of root canals is a lot worse than the actual pain of them.

Reply:I dont know that you can prevent it from ever happening, but I am sure that good dental hygiene cant hurt.





Actually, the root canal itself isnt all that bad, however the root may become abcessed, infected or swollen and in that case, there is often pain involved.

If your doctor recommends that you need a root canal for a tooth that has a lot of decay, you should follow up as soon as possible to avoid a painful root canal. They are only painful when you let the decay and bacteria go wild and then an infection starts...that's when things can get painful.
Reply:My root canal was caught when I went to the dentist and had my x-rays. The only pain I had was the day after when I forgot to take my pain killers.
