Root canal?

I have to go in for a root canal and crown on 1/30. I'm very nervous about it b/c I hate having my teeth worked on. I'm going to a very good dentist, but I'm worried about the procedure. I'm pregant, but this has to be done to prevent infection that could cause harm to my baby. Can anyone tell me about how long they take and if it is painful during or afterwards? Also, do they prescribe pain medication? Thank you.

Root canal?
it'll take aprox 1 hr. depending how deep are the roots to be taken off. im not sure if you'll be injected with anesthesia bec you are pregnant. if you'll be then no problem, it wont hurt. if they wont, it'll hurt and you'll feel uncomfy. im sure the dentist will give you pain releivers and anti biotics. but the pain will not be for so long. you do root canal to remove the roots/nerves of your teeth so that you won't feel anything even when it has cavities or what.
Reply:depending on the state of the gum and tooth, it can take about 1/2 hr to 45 min. It isn't painful, just a bit uncomfortable. I don't know if you can have pain medication if you are pregnant a mild pain killer is all you would need for any discomfort, I didn't even need this however. Don't worry it will be OK
Reply:Hi Memphis Kitten,

I had a root canal too a few months back. The procedure as I remember was not very long, it did not take more than 45 minutes for sure.

If the dentist is good then you should not be scared. they do not give any medication, but it pains really hard afterwards so you might feel like taking a pain killer.

Thanks,

Prateek
