My dentsist says I have to have a root canal. I dont feel any pain at all. Is this in the beginning stages or what? They put a temporary filling on it, but yeah. So since it doesnt hurt right now, will it hurt while they're doing it? Im gonna be numbed not sleeped.
Root canal?
I am an endodontist which is a root canal specialist.
Many people are different in the way that a tooth manifests itself. Some patients have a severe tooth ache and many symptoms prior to a tooth dying. Some patients feel no symptoms at all. The reason for this I do not know. If your dentist is advising you that you require root canal therapy then you should have him or her explain this to you so that you understand, and are motivated to have the treatment done. If you leave this then you will have troubles if the tooth is infected. Root canal therapy should be just as pain free as any dentistry!! The root canal therapy does not drill the entire tooth down it is the preparation for the crown that does that.
Reply:No, it should not hurt if you are numb with local injection in your mouth. u may not necessarily feel any pain but if u dont have gthe treatment u may end up with an abcess and then have to have ur tooth removed!
Reply:yes that is the beginning, if you don't get the root canal like they recommend you will be hurting, and once the pain comes its hard to kill. I had a root canal about 2 years ago. I was not numbed or gas nothing, they just straight drilled....seems sick, well it did not hurt, for most people they don't like there teeth worked on, but its all in your head, It really does not hurt, it more like the sound is bothersome. But do what you want they are your teeth, I say have it done with or with out being numbed.... also they drill the tooth down to nothing but a stub, and after the root canal, they put on a temp tooth until the new one is made, then you will have a white cap on your tooth. So either way you will loose your tooth.
Reply:It wont hurt while they do it but it will be sore after the numbness wears off. Im sure they will give you a pain killer like tylonal 3 or vicodin. It is only a matter of time before you feel the pain. Its better to do it now if it is nedded then wait til it hurts. It hurts bad!!!!!!!!
Reply:ok i had a root canal a few months ago and my dentist made it painless. mine did not hurt at all at first b4 the root canal. good luck
Reply:I chose NOT to get a root canal because I have a fear of dentists. Boy, do I regret it now. My tooth is KILLING me. I've got an appointment to get it worked on. I recommend getting yours worked on ASAP. The pain I feel now is so not worth it…
Reply:HELLO.
MANY TIMES WHEN THE NERVE HAS DIED YOU WILL NOT FEEL PAIN. NEVERTHELES THE ROOT CANAL IS NECESSARY TO PREVENT LOSS OF THE TOOTH.
Reply:As a dentist I can tell you that reason you are not feeling any pain is because the nerve in your tooth has probably already died. You would still want to go ahead with root canal therapy and crowning to prevent the loss of the tooth all together. Good luck!
Reply:Do it now before it starts hurting. I waited to long for mine and had to keep coming back because the anesthetic didn't work....the infection was to deep, then finally when I could stay for the whole appt. it was really uncomfortable.
