my sister had a root canal done and now when she bits down she feels a pressure shes 20!!! is that okay??
Root canal?
Hi! No it is not. I've been in dentistry for over 20 years. Call the dentist and ask him for a 5 minute look see. Sometimes when the tooth has an infection, it can lift up because of the swelling of the periondontal liagament and presented infection. While you sister should have no pain, the pressure is an issue. She may need for the dentist to take a tiny bit of the crown of the tooth off to take it out of occulsion. This is NOT any big deal, as the tooth will need a crown to restore it. I think something as simple as a check bite adjustment will solve this in 30 seconds. Good luck, and if you have any other questions, please ask. ~M
Reply:You didn't mention how long ago she had the procedure, but if it's recent, it's normal.
Reply:It's very possible that her occlusion (bite) is off a tad bit. It's possible that whe the tooth was filled the dentist didn't quite get the bite right. Just hae her give the office a call and it's a quick fix, no numbing or anything! I used to be a dental assistant so I would try this route first before any xrays or anything
Reply:It can take several weeks for a tooth treated with root canal therapy to settle down.
If the therapy was provided months ago, something is wrong.
Possible causes for "pressure upon biting" include, but is not limited to:
- infection has returned
- there is a crack in the crown or root of the tooth
- there is a crack in the filling material in the tooth
- there is too much filling material in the tooth
- the filling has an "overhang" that is causing inflammation in the soft tissues around the root of the tooth.
- there is a gum infection around the tooth
She should book a dental appointment to gave her teeth checked again.
