Root Canal?

ok im going to the dentist tommorow for a root canal..does it hurt that bad? im going to get the gas, but does it hurt after u wake up?

Root Canal?
Root canals do hurt most people. Your dentist may give you some pain pills.
Reply:You shouldnt feel a thing. Tell the dentist BEFORE he starts drilling (and before the gas) that you are extremely sensitive to pain and you'd like a painkiller for when you go home.

Put an ice pack on your face and lay down on the couch with the tv on your favorite channel.

Good luck!
Reply:No, i had one done, it doesn't hurt at all but you do feel the new texture on the back of the tooth. Not pain, its a strange rough feeling.
Reply:You will live, that's the bad news.
Reply:Not I did not feel any pain. Make sure to take pain killer.
Reply:When the anesthesia wears off you'll feel the pain.
Reply:No, it does not hurt. The hard part is keeping your mouth cranked open for that long, but otherwise it is a piece of cake. I'm not kidding. I had one done and it was no big deal except for the part about keeping the mouth propped open... that was a drag.

It will not hurt because the procedure is to clean out the infection from a dead nerve. The infection is the part that hurts, and this is the thing that gives a root canal a bad name. The nerve itself is gone so you will not feel anything. I can tell some of the other answerers have never had one done so they don't know anything about it and are only repeating things they heard from other people, who probably were repeating rumors they heard from other people who never had one either.

Holding your mouth open for so long really is the worst part of it all.
Reply:No not at all. The only part that sucks is getting the shots.
Reply:wow, gas for a root canal? what country u re from? we usually get a shot of anesthetic and after it gets absolutely numb for a few hours
Reply:You won't sleep from the "gas". It will just relax you. Your tooth may be tender but people make root canals sound worse than they are. I have had 2.
Reply:No more than a regular visit. They kill the nerve ending in the tooth so....no nerve...no pain
Reply:NO, you will only feel the numbness. It doesnt hurt at all trust me ive had a couple. not bragging. Unless, you docter isnt very skilled at them. You will be fine. I never had the gas when they did mine, so thats a plus! It wont hurt at all. Even when the numbness goes out you wont beable to feel it bc they kill the nerve.

hopefully he doesnt forget to numb you! which will NEVER happen!

good luck
Reply:It will hurt a little but it shouldn't hurt too bad. Hopefully your dentist is cool and gives you some good pain pills. Ask him for something for the pain. Don't take "no" for an answer. If he won't come across with some pain pills, just let him finish this root canal and then find ANOTHER dentist.
Reply:OMG you actually get the gas??

I am only 14 and i got a root canal..

Trust me you'll be fine..

You dont need flippin gas. thts just throwing away your money..
Reply:I have had two root canals done on my two front teeth at different times. The worst part was the shot they give you of the stuff to numb you. My shot was given right under my nose, which was sensitive and mad my eyes water. But, the pain was not that bad. The actual root canal part does not hurt, although it is uncomfortable to have your mouth open that long. And you can feel pressure, which at times was somewhat uncomfortable and a little weird. Also, the smell of burning when they drilled through to get to the root was a little strange. It also took a long time. A couple of hours. The gas just made me feel funny. It did not put me to sleep. It's not too bad though...but worse than getting a regular cavity filled for sure. The pain of having the infected tooth is tons worse...I would take the root canal any day over that!
Reply:when i went i was soo scared but it really didnt hurt that bad when he was doing it. but when i got home it hurt the whole night.

good luck!
