Root canal?

i was supposed to have one 2+years ago in military but i was pregnant. they used a temp filler and said it was good for a year. it fell out 6 months ago, half the tooth broke off during second pregnancy 4 months ago. skin is growing over and i cant eat on that side. is there risk of infection i wont notice, and will it be more$ to fix it the longer i wait. what will they do to fix it. it is a lower tooth towards back

Root canal?
The list of options are here :

1.Leave it as it is

2.Take it out

3. Finish of the root filling followed by a core build up(filling) and a crown.

To have the third option down it might be difficult as your gum has grown over it. The dentist may opt to remove the gum over it and finish of the root filling.(but this depends how broken down the tooth is. If is badly broken down it may be no point in keeping it). Following a root canal filling he will placed a permanent filling on it followed by a crown.

This is a brief overview but your dentist would have the full picture as he would have the radiographs and do the clinical examination as well
Reply:you may be better off just having them remove that tooth.
Reply:Yes I agree with one answer before me... it might be less of a hassle and less costly to remove the tooth - since it's in the back of your mouth.

Regardless of what you decide to do... have it looked at soon, you never know what could be happening with it. You really need to deal with it right away if there is an infection.
Reply:You more then likely are going to need surgery to remove what is left of the tooth. Unless there is enough to grab hold of to remove it. The longer you wait the worse it's going get
Reply:yes, the risk of infection has been there since the temporary filling fell off. your tooth broke off because it has been rendered brittle by the bacteria and by your pregnancy. your dentist may still opt for a root canal depending on the damage of the infection and then a crown or a bridge after. either you opt to spend more now or lose a tooth (or whatever is left of it)
