Root canal?

went to the dentist yesturday had xrays and was told I need root canals because there absessed? should I have pain or something?

Root canal?
no but i wouldnt get it, get teeth removed other wise you will have to keep haveing teeth filled
Reply:OUCH!!!
Reply:get the painkillers and antibiotics to start -

book your surgery date -

get the anasthetic ask for the gas - you won't feel anything !!!!
Reply:if you are not experienceing pain now that is a blessing, it will soon come. the root canal itself won't hurt usually, but the abcess could cause damage to the jaw bone, do hesitate
Reply:Yes you will have pain. It's no picnic. I have had 3 of them over the years. I had to go back at least 2-3 times for each one. When you're done the dentist will give you a prescription for the pain.
Reply:This is odd, because normally if the abscess is on the outer part of the gum, it would hurt like he!!. Although, if it is located under the gums, then I don't think it would hurt. Normally, an abscess means an infection. Don't worry the doc. will load you up with alot of Novocaine.
Reply:If you have an absess you wont feel any pain at all. Since the nerve is gone because of the infection. You will have to take antibiotic and have a root canal on that tooth. Dont miss any appointment. Good luck.
Reply:Not necessarily, i just had a root canal done 2 weeks ago. At first I had lots of pain, then I got some good drugs, and then they did the root canal a week or so later and everything is fine!!
Reply:Apart from the needles, you will find that a root canal can be an almost pleasureable procedure. That is until they present you with a bill for $3000 and you realize you could have bought a used fishing boat instead. DON'T JUST PULL THE TEETH.

All the others will start to fall out of alignment and you'll end up looking like someone out of the movie DELIVERANCE.

Remember? "Squeel like a pig..weee...weeee"
Reply:If not now you soon will be. An absess will show on an x-ray so get him to show you where the absess is. The absess hasn't reached the nerves inside your tooth. Trus tme, when it does you will know it. Get it done as soon as you can so you can at least save the tooth.
Reply:Basically root canal entails extraction of the pulp cvity material including all the nerve endings in the particular tooth and cleaning it out to prevent further infection and pain, the procedure is done under local anaesthesia and usually there is no pain since the site is numb, after cleaning the tooth is filled with a new crown that has got to be mercury free.
Reply:I've had a root canal and at first it didn't hurt much. I mean I could handle it. But after awhile you do get it. It is sort of like pain going from your jaw bone to your ear, at least it was like that for me. Some of the answers given about the pain meds and gas and all do help, matter of fact you will be knocked out and won't even remember the surgery. But with you being pregnant your risks are higher for you and the baby. If you aren't feeling any pain right now, I would discuss options with your dentist first. When you are pregnant, it is normal for your teeth to loose alot of strength and will sometimes your gums will feel unhealthy, due to the nutrients your baby is taking from you so be sure and consult first. Meds and pregnancy aren't a good combo. Be safe.
Reply:9 times out of 10 the patient does not need anything for pain. The risk of an untreated infection doing harm to your baby is too great and you really need to get this taken care of.
Reply:Do it now. Don't wait. It will get painful and being pregnant you can't take the heavy duty pain killers, and believe me if you wait you'll need them. If you go now you can get the root canal with just some local anesthetic and maybe some gas. The root canal itself isn't really that bad. It's the absess that hurts so much.
