Root canal question?

ok so recently (6 days back) i fainted and fell on my mouth..when i checked my right front tooth in went in (like 1 mm maybe?)and its color was different was different from the rest of my teeth...when i went to the dentist he told me that i'd have to wait and see if the color continues to change %26amp; if it does i would have to get a root canal treatment done..i've heard a root canal treatment is painful, and is there any chances of that tooth going back to its original color?will the root canal treatment bring my tooth back to its original position?can anyone get to know that i got a root canal done on that tooth when i talk or smile?please tell me everything..

btw im only 16 yrs old^

Root canal question?
I have had 4 root canals done in my lifetime.

My very best suggestion is that you go to an endodonist and not have your dentist do the root canal. An endodontist is a specialist who only does root canals all day.

I had heard war and horror stories about root canals, too. It really was not too bad--and I am a big chicken with anything having to do with my teeth.

When you are checking for an endodontist you may want to ask if they provide nitrous oxide (laughing gas) during the procedure. If you do not have adverse reactions to nitrous oxide it can be so relaxing and helpful.

Also, ask for a "bite rest", this is a gizmo that they put in your mouth and you rest your teeth on it and that way you are not straining to hold your mouth open for the doctor to work on your tooth. It is so much easier on your jaw.

There is a chance that the tooth color could lighten up--my tooth was quite discolored (kinda yellowed) and it has lightened up somewhat. Your dentist may also be able to bleach your tooth back to the color of your other teeth or put a veneer on it.

A root canal will not bring your tooth back to it's original position. Your dentist may make a positioner or retainer for you or refer you to an orthodontist who can bring the tooth back to its proper alignment.

No one will be able to tell you had a root canal when you talk or smile. Any drilling is filled in with material that matches your tooth color exactly.

Good luck and I hope that the tooth heals all on its own and you don't have to have a root canal.
Reply:go ahead as doctor said. my wife had similar problem. but now she is feeling better.
Reply:hi hun im a dental nurse

root canal isnt that painful u will have a little injection to numb it if this does but i promise if u ask for numbing gel on u gum 1st u wont feel a thing

i had an av=ccident on my bike when i was 8 and i had 2 have my 2 front teeth rf (ROOT FILLED) i am 30 and still have the same teeth .. but when u have root treatment ur tooth does darken so what i had was veneers (these are like false finger nails) made of porclein my teeth are really nice now babes but.. if u dont have to have root treatment maybe u will have internal bleaching done? this is where the dentist drills a tiny hole at the back of ur tooth and pops in a tiny bit of medicine on a tiny bit of cotton wool and u have this done about 3 times 2 see if this will bleach the inside of the tooth so the crown (part of tooth u can see) turns white agin..

hope this helps be brave its worth it in the end .. good luck xx
Reply:if you have a good doctor...it will be painless. i have had 3 of them and never felt painful, only a little discomfort. after the root canal, they will crown the tooth so it will match your other teeth in color. if your tooth is changed color, i would go ahead and schedule to have the root canal done. i would also advise going to a specialist as previously mentioned instead of your regular dentist.
