Root canal?

I'm 15 and need a root canal. Will it hurt? Should I be nervous?


It's on a back bottom molar by the way.

Don't worry, it's nearly always painless!! They will give you some local anaesthetic by injection, if you're scared of that hurting you can ask for some anaesthetic gel to be used first on the injection site. Then they open the tooth and use small files to remove the nerve. Your jaw may ache as you need to keep your mouth open for about 40 minutes, but you shouldn't feel any pain from the tooth. You may get slight pain or about a week afterwards but just take normal painkillers. It normally takes two stages to complete root canal treatment, especially on a molar because of the root pattern.

Reply:When they do the actual root canal work, it won't hurt just slight uncomfortableness nothing too much to worry about..








after though, it will be sore ecspecially when you bite down - trust me I've had 2 done in the back :( hmm, tips would be stick with soft foods for 1 week, more if needed - don't bite down hard. its nothing to worry about, you'll do fine!
Reply:I have had many root canals my teeth always hurt after they are worked on. The teeth broke soon after I had root canals even 2 days after and now they hurt very much I thought teeth that had root canals were not supposed to hurt anymore? Has anyone else had that pain?
Reply:My root canal was started Dec.20th and finished Jan.9. I am still waiting for the impression to be taken and the actual crown to be placed. As for pain? The first appointment did not hurt one bit. I had two wisdom teeth pulled,a root canal, and a filing done that day. The only pain I had was a dry socket from my wisdom teeth that were pulled. The root canal had no pain at all. I didn't even know I had it done.The second visit was not so bad. They numb you, I am not a fan of needles so they didn't numb me. They clean out the old temp. filing. Then they place the post in your gums. (Post are long metal things that look like needles)That might take a while. It doesn't hurt. The dentist has to make sure each post are positioned just right and up high enough. Then they take a couple of x-rays to make sure they did it right. They fill the tooth with temp. filing and send you home. You may not feel pain while you are there or a couple hours after, but I was in pain. It hurts when I bite down or swallow. This is my first root canal and from what I have read. Some hurt after and some do not. It all depends on your body. You have nothing to be nervous about. The root canal is not bad at all. Its the after the root canal that is killing me. It may not bother you at all. It didn't bother my friend. Like I said everyone is different. Hope I took some ease off of your mind.
