Root Canal?

I have to get a root canal done and then a post and crown. The prices I am seeing are very high. What's the average rate and is it worth it to try and save money? Can I save money on this proceedure and if so, how?

Root Canal?
mine cost a little under 900, that was a root canal, a post, and a veneer, my dentist let me pay in thirds, maybe yours would work out a payment plan? You can also go to colleges for cheap medical work. They cant drug you up for that kind of stuff like a real doctor, but you can have anything from wisdom teeth to plastic surgery done by students for 1/4 the cost. Or you can go to a clinic and get a referral. They do sliding pay based on your income.
Reply:I have had 3 done, and they ranged form 800-1400. I was just as happy with the 800 and the 1400 although the 1400 dr was alot nicer and the facilities were more nice and i had tv to watch! I would suggest either want to bring head phones in case they dotn provide so you dont have to listen to drilling! What you need to be careful of is that some times they dont put the vanier on there, they make you go back to your dentist which then costs more, so get some quotes and ask whats involved, one that cost me about 900 also cost me almosr 450 to get the vanier form my denist! Good luck!
Reply:The only way to save money is to price other dentists around your town. If you switch dentist though, you may have to pay a start up fee. It won't hurt to call around and inquire. Good luck my friend.
Reply:The average cost of a root canal can be between $600-1000. There is no way to skimp on that, and you wouldn't want to anyway. If you go to an endodontist for the root canal, they most likely will allow you to make payments. For the crown, you have a couple options. Stainless steel is the cheapest. It can run between $150-$300. However, it is very weak and not made for permanent wear. It could maybe last you 6 months before it needs to be replaced. It will also likely be rough on your gums. The only other options are porcelain and gold. Those are the priciest, but the best. Insurance companies say to expect a gold crown to last 7-10 years. However, I've seen them last 50 years with proper care. Those are around $650-$800.

I would say if you're looking at not being in a better financial situation in the near future, bite the bullet and go for the gold. It can last you forever. With Stainless Steel, you'll need to keep getting it replaced once or twice a year. Over a few years you would have paid for a gold or porcelain crown.
