What are my dental patient rights? Bad root canal...?

Who pays for post-op (root canal) problems? I am uninsured, paid $2,000 for root canal and problems persist. (random bleeding at gumline of root canal tooth)


Who covers costs of ongoing care? Dentist since they may have botched the procedure or patient?


Do I contact the Dental Association or Lawyer or ?

Return to Dentist to give them a chance to help you. If unsuccessful go to another Dentist for an opinion. Take all previous info, get copy of chart, including all x-rays. They may be able to help you.
Reply:Hi, I am sorry to hear of your troubles! RCT is not a nice procedure to have to have! If i was you, i would go back to the dentist youu saw for the RCT and explain the problems you are having (this gives him/her chance to correct the problem for you) If then he/she will not help you then go to the Dental Association as they are breaking the rules. Dentists are always very well insured, so don't think you are doing anything wrong. I hope you get this sorted! x x
Reply:First of all, $2000 for one root canal is ridiculous. Are you including the cost of the build up and crown after the root canal? Secondly, you MUST go back to the dentist for an evaluation. Even a perfectly done root canal can have complications, and that does not mean the dentist did anything "wrong". There could be residual infection in need of antibiotics, etc...





Lastly, your symptom of "bleeding at the gumline" may not even be directly related to the root canal. It may be due to poor hygiene on your part, or, if the tooth does not yet have a crown, and just has a temporary, it may be irritating the gumline. Most dentists are not in business to screw their patients, and if given the chance can/will make it better. The advice that most "dentists are well insured" so don't be afraid to sue, is just so ridiculous, it makes me want to vomit...
