Is immense pain after root canal a sign of trouble?

I had 2 root canals performed by my Endodontist 2 days ago (just over 48 hours ago) on teeth #13 and #15. I have a fairly constant, dull pain in the area and it is sore to pressure in the general area. If I attempt to slightly bite down in the area (tooth #14 is still whole), it elicits a fairly strong pain. I have had other root canals, and none of this seems out of the ordinary.





However, if I place any pressure, even if just slightly with my tounge, on the underside of tooth #13 it creates an unbearable pain. Tooth #15 does not have any pain if touched or w/ pressure. This isn't my first go-round, and I don't remember ever feeling pain like this.





I had no pain before the root canals (neither were painful or infected; these were only to correct decay that was encroaching on the pulp). Neither were abcessed. I accidentally bit down while chewing food on the other side of my mouth and the pain was almost incapacitating.





Is this a sign of a failed root canal? Any ideas?

PAIN ON # 13 MAY INDICATE THAT THERE MAY BE A FRACTURED ROOT. HAVE THE ENDODONTIST EVALUATE THIS TOOTH FOR A ROOT FRACTURE.


WHILE SLIGHT DISCOMFORT IS NOT UNUSUAL, THE PAIN YOU DESCRIBE IS VERY EXTREME. IF YOU CANNOT SEE THE SPECIALIST HAVE YOUR REGULAR DENTIST EVALUATE THIS TOOTH.
Reply:Root canals remove the nerves out of the tooth and treat the canals. Once the nerves are removed there should be no pain. Something has gone wrong with your root canal if you have pain.
Reply:OMG! i feel so bad for u... (i've had 2 teeth pulled out; although i've never experienced that pain, i can imagine what is must be like). wait for 2 or 3 days and see if it gets better, if not, IMMEDIATELY talk to the doc.
