Root Canal Or Something Else?

For the past few months I have been going to the dentist and having small cavities fixed so I can go to an orthodonist and get braces. I went yesterday and my dentist fixed three right in a row and one of them was fairly big. Before he filled it he told me that I wouldn't have to have a root canal unless something went wrong and he didn't think it would. Well, I had to get three shots to fully numb my mouth and when I left I obviously I felt fine. By the time I got home I wasn't numb anymore and it hurt to chew on that side. I figured it was because of all the drilling and because it was so big. I tried to eat breakfast this morning and it hurt like it did lastnight and it has gotten worse as the day as went on. Now it feels like I have an earache and it's about to get the best of me. I have another appointment with him tomorrow afternoon when I get off of work but I'm wondering if I will have to have a root canal? Could there be something else causing all of the pain? Something simple

Root Canal Or Something Else?
It is not necessary for a deep cavity to be hurting you. I had a VERY deep one but it never hurt me.

The tooth will feel tender for two or three days if it is deeply drilled and filled, but it shouldn't go on for long. So you would feel sensitive to chewing and pressure but not necessarily cold and hot.

When you go to your dentist you will know for sure what is going on. They might take an X-ray for it to make sure there is no decay near the root.

Take care
Reply:It sounds like the tooth is reacting to the drilling and filling. Take anti-inflammatories like Advil or Aleve. Hopefully it will calm things down. If not, you may end up needing the root canal to end the pain.
