I've had 2 surgeries in the span of 2 years for recurring Dentigerous cysts on #22 (left lateral incisor). Do i need a Root Canal treatment?
Root Canal Treatment?
ok firstly i suggest go with what the dentist says extraction is iminant if u have a root canal
Reply:Are you sure of the diagnosis? Usually with a dentigerous cyst a tooth is impacted (trapped below) and the treatment involves extraction of the tooth with the cyst - for this reason a dentigerous cyst doesn't recur.
When I think of a recurring cyst I think of an OKC (odontogenic keratocyst). I'm hoping that your dentist or surgeon submitted the cyst for a biopsy to confirm their initial diagnosis.
Root canal therapy (RCT) may be indicated in teeth that associated with a cyst after the cyst has been removed since the surgery to remove the cyst interrupts the blood supply to a tooth. Without a blood supply the tooth dies and so the necrotic pulp needs to be removed and the space filled.
I would follow up with your dentist and make sure of the diagnosis.
