Root canal failures?

i am getting a root canal tomorrow on #22 (left lateral incisor) and i wanted to know if it is easy for a root canal to fail on that specific tooth, or just in general. this is my first time getting one too.

are the odds of a failure on #22 high? does that mean it must be extracted?

Root canal failures?
Hi, I'm a dentist.

First off, tooth #22 is the lower left canine, not an incisor.

Canines have one canal and one canal only. They typically are some of the most simplistic endodontic procedures to complete due to the straightforward canal structure.

In short, your odds of failure are likely less than 5%.

If a root canal treatment fails, it must either be redone or the tooth will likely need to be extracted.

I hope that helps.
Reply:It really is a case to case basis. But, on tooth #22 odds of a failure is low. Since we only have one canal on that tooth, it'll be easy for the dentist to clean the canal and have a very good prognosis.

The objective of having a root canal is to preserve the tooth itself. Extraction can be an option, if you've a big infection that can't be drained by RCT, and it has affected your bone surrounding the tooth.
