Are filling cavities or getting a root canal more painful?

I got 5 cavities filled on the right side of my mouth this morning. 3 on the bottom and 2 on the top. Tomorrow morning I have to get a root canal done on the left side of my mouth ( the tooth has given me no real pain ) but through x ray they realized i need one. I know a normal root canal hurts more but after what i went through today and the fact that the tooth has not hurt me before will this root canal be worse than what i went through today?

Trust me, it won't hurt at all! Had one two days ago. I'm only 16, and I was so terrified, but nearly laughed when I felt little to nothing in my mouth. Trust me, the dentist will work with you. You will get 2 needles, and the first one is the most painful part! You might get more than 2 if you continue to feel pain, I got 4, but it was well worth it, and barely felt any pain during the needles. Trust me, it won't hurt. Don't listen to any other people, they are trying to scare you!

Don't get worked up over it, as I said, it won't hurt! They numb you up ALOT to ensure it doesn't. You will feel pain after you are done, but pain killers and ice should help you get through it, and it should only hurt for about a day. :)

Hope I helped!

Best Regards,

Joe
Reply:Root canals are much more invasive than fillings, so it follows that it will "hurt" more. But don't worry about it, your dentist knows what he/she is doing. You won't feel it happening and will probably have the appropriate drugs to get rid of the funny feeling afterwards.
