I had root canal done today, the tooth has a hole in it, now it looks like nothing was ever wrong with it, no hole at all. What are crowns and are they white? My tooth looks like a new one.
Root canal crowns?
The root canal was to remove the root and any infection you may have had in there. It is possible that you have a filling material that matches your tooth color. Usually, to have a permanent crown made, the dentist will have to make an impression of the tooth so that the crown will fit perfectly. He will put a temporary plastic crown over the remaining tooth material until the permanent crown is made. Crowns can be white like your teeth (made of porcelain) or gold. If you can't see any line between the tooth and the gum then you probably had the tooth filled.
EIther way, just call the dentist's office and ask - they'll be happy to answer any questions you have.
Reply:They're ceramic covers...
Reply:Crowns are basically fake teeth that are put in over your old teeth. There are a few different materials, and can be either preformed or fitted. They're placed over root canals to keep the tooth strong (after a root canal, the tooth is much weaker than it was).
Reply:Usually, crowns will match your other teeth. They go over the root canal tooth because after the root canal treatment is done, they become very dry and brittle. Dentists don't want you breaking a tooth that you just spent lots of money on, so it's very important that you get one. Good luck
Reply:I had a root canal that I had to go back for four or five times. Another one that still needs a crown that I had about a year ago, I've only had worked on maybe twice, but the canal seemed easier. (I was in a lot of pain before and after, but I think it could've been alergies to the building I was working in in addition to the root canal pain)
I guess ask your dentist when you get a chance if you need a crown on it. If you do and you don't get one (and it's been a while on this one in my mouth) it can crack and that will be a lot of money spent for nothing.
Reply:You would have known if he put a crown on because your wallet would be at lease $400 or more lighter. The crown is suppose to protect the tooth after a root canal because supposedly the tooth is more fragile now (just telling you what I was told).
I have had 3 root canals and I will be having to crowns put on next week at $400 each.
Best to take care of your teeth early on.
P.s. you no longer have a hole because it is filled after the root canal.
