I had a root canal done 3 weeks ago on my very back molar, the dentist said 2 out of 3 roots were calcified so he was able to only do the one,he left me with only the temporary filling to see if the tooth would be okay to crown being he only found the one canal.Well, yesterday,a piece of that tooth came off,i think he should have put a temporary crown on,my next appt. is on Jauary 16th,should i wait until then or call him tomorrow? My gum is a tad sore where the piece of tooth cracked off. :(
Root canal question?
Have him check it out so if it did crack it doesn't crack anymore. He was right in only placing a temp filling. In order to make a temp crown he would have had to place a permanent filling, called a build up, and reshaped the tooth to fit a crown. He's waiting to make sure your tooth is fine before he proceeds.
by the way the temp filling becomes brittle and crumbles as it dries and you chew with it. so maybe it's just a piece of the filling that cracked off
Reply:i would call him just to make sure...
Reply:Call him. They cannot put a crown on it until they are sure that the site of the root canal will be "ok." You can have complications after a root canal. But call him tomorrow and let him know that the tooth (part of it) broke off. You should not wait until January 16th.
Reply:I would call tomorrow and find out what they recommend. I have to get a crown done on Jan 23rd.
Reply:RCT THerapy comes in 2 processes..........yes firts the temporary process where the tooth is given temporal filling just to make sure of its precision..and then we have what we call permanent filling where they have to see if the tooth with the RCT Therapy has already settled down to its normal treatment..by the way, a piece of the tooth shouldnt come out, that is a part of the filling.............so better check with your dentist ASAP........but dont worry, nothing really!!!
