Does a root canal treatment needs maintenance?

Is there anyone who ever experience a root canal treatment. As what my dad told me. His crown for his root canal treatment is now shaky. Therefore he couldn't chews using that tooth. Once he did that, inflammation occurs. He is now 66-year-old. My mum said probably my dad's gum is shrinking.

1. Is there any treatment as for this condition?

2. Can he chews as usual after the treatment?

3. If he doesn't wants to have any treatment, will it getting serious as he age?

Does a root canal treatment needs maintenance?
Hi, I'm a dentist.

It sounds like your father could have one of two problems. He could have decay that developed under/around the crown, which has made the crown unstable. He could also have periodontal disease, meaning he could have lost bone surrounding the endodontically treated tooth, resulting in the entire tooth becoming mobile.

Or, it could be something completely different. The point is, you need to see a dentist ASAP. All dental problems are treatable to a certain extent, but one thing is certain: the longer you wait to address a problem, the more time and money it will take to fix. All dental problems, if left unchecked, will worsen over time.

Good luck.
