Root Canal 2 1/2 weeks ago and my mouth is KILLING me!?

I had a tooth..one of my back ones that had been filled a few years ago...about two years ago the filling fell out. My husband and I didnt have insurance, so I never got it fixed. In January of this year my tooth broke off where the filling was missing. I went to the dentist (we just got insurance finally) and he said that I needed a root canal. He numbed me completely during the procedure. There was no pain at all. Over the past few days my tooth has gradually gotten more sore and sensitive. It feels like it is throbbing and hurts to even touch with my toungue. Is this normal? It is 5:45am and I am awake because my tooth woke me up! It feels like it is throbbing really bad and almost feels like my jaw is starting to hurt too. I have been taking 800mg ibprofen for two days. Any information would be very appreciated. On a scale of 1-10 my pain is an 8. Thanks in advance!

it sound, like you got an infection going in high gear. i know is bad, been there, done that, - but you must go back and you,ll get probably on antibiotics, to kill that inflammation there.
Reply:Sounds like it could be a botched root canal. Only one way to find out though and thats to go back to the dentist and have him look at the tooth again.
Reply:Call the dentist 1st thing or if you know they're open this morning just show up when they 1st open. You shouldn't be having any pain.
Reply:The problem with those root canals is they are so expensive and may not even work. The good thing is that it's now and not after the cap.You may want to ask him to call u in some antibiotics because it may be infected. This will help with the pain.Also...don't let him do anything until the infection is gone because while it is infected...you can't be numbed.
Reply:If you're root canal still hurts two and a half weeks after you had it done, that's not good. It normally stopped hurting for me after three to four days. I have had four root canals in my lifetime. I suggest that you have surgery on one of your legs becuase the blood running through your legs actually goes into your gums. Your surgeon can put in new blood in your leg (not your mouth because it is too risky with all of your teeth there) so it goes up to your gums and will help your tooth feel a lot better. I have actually done this once when I had my first root canal. It made all the pain go away. The only bad thing about this surgery is they can't put you to sleep. They need to make sure nothing wrong happens, so they need to know you are alive throughout the whole surgery. They stick a long thick needle into your leg, suck out some of your old blood, and put it the new fresher blood. I advise you to have the surgery, for I was very glad I did.
Reply:Allrite....as ur sayin its been bou 2-3 weeks since you got your RCT...and ur suffering from severe pain esp on eating???......it seams the procedure has not been carried out properly......most probably the Obturation (material to fill the root canals).....has failed or has exceeded the desired limit.....so it would be appropriate you consult a good dentist ASAP....who will carry out clinical examination and shoot an X-ray to diagnose the problem......and as far as for temporary relief you can take a good painkiller.....eg. Ibrufoen or diclofenac SOS......but these shall be available only on prescription.......hope so you get early relief...!!!......nethin else keep us posted......
