Root Canal?

I have an abcess...(however you spell it) and it doesnt hurt at all! we caught it early...it formed yesterday, I went to the dentist today, and I'm getting a root canal on Tuesday (4 days away).


I'm on antiobiotics now,


and I just wanted to know if root canals are painful at all??

They numb you up pretty good. There's some, as they call it, "discomfort."
Reply:I had 2 root canals done in one day, and it wasn't nearly as bad as i thought it would be. The worst parts were all of the shots to numb the area and how sore my jaw was from keeping my mouth open so long. The actually procedure was slightly uncomfortable at times, but not painful at all. Good Luck! Oh yeah, mine didn't hurt before the work was done either.

Reply:Not trying to scare you or anything, but the one I had was terribly painful--just make sure your denist gives you a prescription for some good pain killers cuz you're gonna need em.
Reply:It depends on who does it. I had a dentist who rarely did root canals and it was a horrifying, 3-hour experience that gave me a disjointed jaw. But I had a second root canal done by a specialist and it took 30 minutes and I never felt a single thing, walked out of the office and was eating 10 minutes later. So my advice is, get someone who knows what they're doing. Also, If the nerve is already dead in your tooth, you will have a much better chance of feeling no pain.

Reply:I didnt feel a thing when I had mine done, it took about 45 minutes, I guess the only "painful" thing was the first injection of Novocaine, other than that nothing. You will be fine, dont worry about a thing.
