I'm getting a Root Canal tomorrow, and I heard they hurt!
I'm only 14 and plus I have braces. I was wondering if someone could give me advice...If you had a Root Canal done before!
Thanks! =]
Root Canal?
Mine helped relieve the pain. It hurt worse before I had it done.
Reply:it should not be too bad- just relax
Reply:Salam
A total waste of time, rip the tooth out is cheaper and better especially if its beyond. Its a total waste of time and money if you ask me and they never do get all the root out. Its very long and painful you will find your jaw sore for many days after and probably never eat properly on that side again.
Reply:it is paiful when the poison starts draining from your mouth.it will soon be all over.oh god,im glad its not me but if u need it done,go for it
Reply:It's not that bad. Just daunting. They will put a plastic dam over your mouth...which is not painful, but annoying as hell. Pain wise, it is no worse than having a cavity filled. Don't be concerned. The pain that tooth could cause you in the future, is far less bearable than a root canal.
Reply:yes tell them you dont want to be awake and you want to record it on a recorder so you can watchit later.. if they wont let you pass out then try and dont think about it just learn to live in your head and forget about the grinding sounds coming up your jaw and into your head!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
im sorry plz dont worry i need tooth work bad but i dont have any insurace and i know its gonna be expencive and have a lot to do with pulling 4 of my teeth..and im afraid that once they pull theos 4 ill not be very smart anymore...
may yoda be one with me!
Reply:The people who have a hard time getting numb area the ones that have massive infection. (change in chemistry around the tooth doesn't allow for numbing) Most of the time, having root canals done is just plain boring for the patient, bring your iPod. If there's any pain, tell the doctor immediately. Also, afterwards, and before the anesthesia wears off, take a couple of advil. Sometimes teeth can be tender to bite on after a root canal. Usually just a day or 2, but sometimes a week or two ( though less than the first day or so)
Good luck! You'll be fine
Reply:Sweetie I'm right behind you. I go for one Wednesday.
The doctor does not give knock out shouts. (I'M) scarred.
I ask do they give laughing gas. They said yes. I told them to get ready to laugh their heads off. They're going to have to use all in the office, plus Novocaine me up.
On the serious side I plan on bring my headphones and good music and blind folds.
Reply:for me it felt fine before they messed with my teeth. but right after the numming medicine wore off, it was HELL!! im telling you the torture was so painful. i couldn't eat, i couldn't sleep. it was like getting an ear infection in my mouth. it lasted for 3 months after the root canal, and till this day, i can't chew on the left side of my mouth. there is also some gum swelling that hurts like chyt, but its alot better then the pain from 3 months ago.
your lucky if there isnt' any pain, but if there is ICE IT, AND DON'T MOVE YOUR MOUTH.
EVEN TALKING, CHEWING OR SLIGHT MOVEMENT OF THE HEAD WILL CAUSE PAIN.
.. well actualy, now that i think about it, i don't think that pain was from the root canal, but from the broncitis (biteing and genching of the teeth)
oh thats right!!! i would bite down really hard for some weird reasion after the root canal. it was just a bad habit that turned into ALOT of pain. oww... from 0-10, 0 being no pain, and 10 being leg cut of/ having a baby. i would say this was a 8.5
im just telling you from experience, hope your root canal goes good! and don't forget to brush your teeth *wink*
xoxo, cara
Reply:It's not that bad. I've had to have two, and one was completely painless. That was a tooth that got struck and injured, so the nerve was dead beforehand. The other one was a tooth that got infected, and that one did hurt, but the root canal wasn't as painful as the infected tooth. You'll be fine.
Reply:God so many people ask about root canals. I copied and pasted these steps for you. It shows all the reasons and steps for your root canal. But they do numb it with novacaine. Its a needle they put in your mouth. It just pinches.
A) Placing a rubber dam around your tooth.
After numbing your tooth but before beginning the actual process of performing the root canal treatment, your dentist will stretch a sheet of rubber around your tooth. Dentists call this sheet of rubber a "rubber dam." It is held in place by a small clamp that grasps your tooth.
The purpose of a rubber dam is as follows. Since one of the fundamental goals of root canal therapy is to clean bacteria out of a tooth, and since saliva does have bacteria in it, the placement of a rubber dam allows the dentist to keep your tooth saliva free so it doesn't get recontaminated with bacteria while your root canal treatment is being performed. B) Gaining access to the nerve area of the tooth.
As a starting point for the process of performing your root canal treatment your dentist must first gain access to that area inside the tooth where the nerve tissue resides. This is accomplished by using a dental drill and making an access hole that extends down to the pulp chamber of the tooth. On posterior teeth this hole is made on the chewing surface of the tooth. On front teeth the access hole is made on the tooth's backside. C) Cleaning the tooth out.
A root canal file. The next step of the root canal treatment process is for your dentist to clean out the interior of your tooth (the pulp chamber and all root canals). As we discussed previously, this cleaning process removes any bacteria, toxins, nerve tissue, and related debris that are harbored inside your tooth. or the most part the cleaning process is accomplished by way of using "root canal files." These objects look like straight pins but on closer inspection you would find that their surface is rough, not smooth. These instruments literally are files and are used as such. Your dentist will work a series of root canal files, each of increasing diameter, up and down in your tooth while simultaneously using a twisting motion. This action will scrape and scrub the sides of the tooth's root canal(s), thus cleaning it out. Additionally, as part of the cleaning process your dentist will wash your tooth out periodically so to help flush away any debris that is present.
The goal is for your dentist to clean the entire length of the tooth's root canal(s), but not beyond. As a means of determining the length of a canal your dentist may place a root canal file in your tooth and then take an x-ray. Once developed the x-ray picture will reveal if the file extends the full length of the canal or not. Alternatively, your dentist may have an electronic device that can make this same determination when it is touched to a file that has been positioned in a canal.
Traditionally the filing action of root canal files has been created by way of the dentist manipulating them with their fingers. There are, however, special dental drills (dental drills are called "handpieces") which can hold and twist these files, and your dentist may choose to use one. As a variation on this same theme, there is yet another type of dental handpiece that produces a cleaning motion by way of holding a root canal file and vibrating it vigorously.
Reply:I think everyone has heard that R/C treatment is painful.. My dentist gives a round of antibiotics and starts treatment when the prescription is finished. You should have no more discomfort than with a filling. If you do, tell your dentist.
Reply:I was only 9 when I had 4 root canals. But let me tell you this, they absolutely do not hurt. But maybe after your mouth might get sore for a couple of hours. If you have braces, it is going to hurt a little bit but not that much!! Hope that Helpz!
Reply:Dont be afraid. The Dentist will use Novicane and you wont feel a thing. And when it is over.....you will have something to brag about!!! Not everyone can say that he or she had a rootcanal!!!
Good luck.and ..keep smiling!!!!
Reply:i have had 2 root canals the worst thing about it was the numbing shots that hurt me the most once i got my teeth removed it was almost instance if it was not for the pain shots it would have been instant but i would not have it done with out the shots
Reply:Well i actually just had my first one done today. I went in for an emergency visit because of a severe pain in my tooth. It actually was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. As long as your dentist numbs you very good, you will be okay. Even after the numbness wore off, my gums just feel sore right now but it is nowhere near as bad as it was. They will also write you a prescription for pain killers and probably amoxicillin. The amoxicillin should clear up the remaining infection. Good luck and dont be scared it's not that bad!!
Reply:it isn't that bad during the procedure, it's really time consuming, cleaning out the bad tooth (about an hour)...afterwards there is some throbbing and its hard to eat on the side you had it done, but take an ibprofin afterwards and you should be fine. i had mine done last week.
