Root canal?

Since I got pregnant (8 weeks along) 2 of my teeth have cracked open with holes in them- exposing the roots. The pain is almost unbearable at times- I'm pretty sure i'll at least need a root canal? Can I have one done during pregnancy? And if not- anyone know what else they might be able to do? I hate the thought of having to get meds while pregnant-- but the pain is horrible!

Root canal?
yes it is safe, i have just had my teeth fixed due to major problems as well
Reply:Yes you can. Actually the more children you have the worse your teeth get. Pregnancy's drain everything from your teeth so make sure you take very good care of them.
Reply:You have basically 2 options... first being go to the dentist and get it taken care of or go to your local drugstore and get the temporary filling stuff and just keep using that. I did that with my last pregnancy and I had my dental work taken care of afterwards. The stuff comes in a teeney tiny plastic container and it's only 4.50. Hope that helped.

edit...the pain is coming from the root being exposed so once it is covered it will not bother you.
Reply:Not an expert, but with a local anesthetic, I cannot imagine it going into the placenta. I don't think it goes into the blood stream or else wouldn't it cause numbness all around the body? See what I mean about the local staying local?

My doctor had a little computer that told me if a drug was going to be ok or not. But those were prescription drugs not anesthetics for root canals. Call your endodontist tomorrow and have him give you some help. But honestly I think you need a root canal or you may get some kind of tooth infection.
Reply:you might just have a crown put on in which case there are no drugs aside from the local anesthetic. I had a crown put on one of my teeth because it was cracked and I was preg and it was fine
