I just got back from the dentist and had a root canal. My numbness is starting to wear off and I'm feeling a lot of pain. It doesn't feel like simple jaw pain like others have said you would feel, this is quite a lot worse; in fact, it's a bit worse than the toothache itself and THAT kept me up all night. The root canal itself went well and I felt no pain. Is this normal? What's best to ease the pain?
Root Canal?
They should have given you a pain killer. If not, then try Tylenol or Motrin; if that doesn't help, then call the office and page the doctor because you need them to call in an Rx for pain. It's normal to still feel soreness or even pain inside the tooth, and you may have sensitivity, but that all comes with having the root canal. Your nerve in your tooth has been 'filled' and your tooth has to get used to it.
Reply:Your dentist didn't perscribe any pain medication for you? Try Motrin and call your dentist and see if he/she can call anything in for you.
Reply:I have had 7 root canals and alot of porcelian veneers put in as a teenager. So the pain killers that worked the best for me was tylenol with codeine.I would go back and ask for something stronger
