I was wondering where the misconception that root canals are soooooooo painful came from? ... I just had one yesterday and i don't need any pain medication or anything to help releave pain. I was wondering if someone could explain to me there experiance of having a root canal done. if it was painful or not and what kind of pain you had
Root Canal?????
everyone handles pain differently and some people just don't feel as much pain as others...I was knocked out when I had one because they did it at the same time as removing my wisdom teeth...therefore I associate the whole thing w/ a LOT of pain because I had complications from my wisdom teeth and root canals. I also have major dentist anxiety so I associate every dental procedure w/ something that freaks me out. I think you are very lucky that you had no pain =]
Reply:I've had root canal treatment and it was in no way painful...I don't understand how people think this either...
Reply:I had a root canal right before my wedding (3 days before).
It was painful after the first visit. It didn't hit me until I was driving home. Once I took some Tylenol or Ibuprofen and it got to work, I was fine and able to return to work. But it was painful. The other 2 procedures, I don't remember being too painful or uncomfortable. It's a pain.
Reply:I have had more than one root canal, and I did not find them painful either. I think that today's dentist are better equipped to perform the rootcanal and perhaps this is why it is less painful. I am not sure.
Reply:I didn't find my first root canal painful either. I guess, it's a long "sit" and requires follow up appointments. The most painful part of the experience to me was the bill $.
Reply:Witch step in the root canal did you have?
I cant beleive for one minute thay you had the root removed with no pain medication at all and felt nothing. The who reason for having it becasue you are already in pain removing the root witch is close or attached to the nerve is painfull. Once that is removed and filled then the posts are placed in it is painless becasue the root has already been removed and no pain meds are given.
Reply:I had one done about a year ago. I was terrified because I never had any major procedure done to my teeth. It wasn't bad at all! The worst part was my face being numb from the novicane for a few hours.
I think years ago they might have been more painful, but modern technology and procedures make it easy and relatively pain-free.
Reply:Well, it depends on the situation that's occurring in the mouth, I have had 4 root canals. 3 of which were great and easy going and 1 which was super painful, when I was 15, I had some pain in my mouth, my mother insisted that I was being dramatic and let it go. The pain persisted and when I finally went to the dentist I was told that I would have to have a root canal. Note: the dentist did inform my mother that if I had been brought in earlier it would have just been a cavity. So, the root canal procedure begin, I was numbed up, but I began to feel pain, the dentist stopped gave me some more pain medication, waited, and began again. There was still pain, after giving me a 3rd dose he told me that he wouldn't be able to give me anymore. (He didn't want to overdose me). He patiently wait for the drug to work and needless to say, it didn't. I remember it like yesterday. The pulsating drill plunging into my tooth, the crunching sound of my tooth being drilled and the horrible throbbing and pain, along with tears just streamed down my face. I also remember someone holding my head still. My mother felt so bad, she cried and cried. But, still not more than I did.
