Root canal?

I am in the process of having a root canal done again because it failed the first time. The dentist doesnt know why it failed the xrays were fine and antibiotics didnt help so there was no infection either. Now that he has removed the treatment and put a temporary filling on the tooth there is no pain at all in that tooth.

Which is all good but surely when he does it again it will start hurting again because he will do the same as last time as he doesnt know what went wrong last time in order to correct it this time?

Root canal?
A common reason why Root canals fail is because they were not sealed well enough, when the dentist refills the canals he use GP points, these go into the canals and a permanent filling then goes on top, if the canal is not sealed properly, saliva and bacteria leak into the canal and can trigger off an infection and if a course of antibiotics dont work the work has to be done.

An xray is normally taken after the procedure so the dentist can see if the canals have been sealed!

As for the pain, you shouldn't really feel any, if he has removed all of the nerve, some times a small piece of nerve may have been left behind because it was to deep in the canal for the dentist to get to, my dentist uses an Apex Locate which beeps when he has reached the end of the apex and he knows he has gone as far as he can go and that all of the nerve has successfully been removed.

If you do suffer any discomfort after the procedure take your normal pain killers.
Reply:before I got dentures, i researched root canal.,,, it is very common for the inner filling to shrink a little, infections get in and you have to do it again. very common your dentist knows that. but he or she will make a great deal more money if you got root canal instead of extraction.

sorry that is how it works. there are reference books available in the library on old fillings and root canal issues. I am considering dental implants eventually if i can afford them as my denture are an annoyance at times. and i am unable to eat with them at all.
Reply:i had a canal filling a few yrs ago, it was successful, but ***** feel anything after, my tooth i was told would be weaker, and it eventually broke and now its removed, i dont envy you, its a horrible experience
Reply:I am sorry that yours for some reason didn't work,i have quite a few post crowns and to have these you must have the root removed i have to say that i do have a very good dentist and he looks after my mouth.I do hope things work out for you.
