Root Canal?

After getting a root canal done, are you in pain? I have one today and I am scared, not even sure what a root canal is, but I have a cracked tooth in back and need a root canal they say, ouch or no?

Ask for nitrous oxide (gas) and breathe in through your nose.





You won't feel a thing and it will be over in a few minutes. Without the gas it's a little intense.
Reply:Very ouch, and if you smoke, don't, you'll get dry socket and that is even worse.
Reply:I had root canal last summer and I had no pain at all afterward.
Reply:Don't worry about that. I had 11 root canals done in 2 weeks time - they do not hurt that much with proper anesthetics..
Reply:Oh yeah it will hurt, but the dentist will likely give you a prescription for pain killers, jsut hope you can get it and get the medicine from the pharmacy before the pain comes..lol..Its not THAT bad though..I had to have 2 done..

Reply:The whole objective to the root canal is to kill the nerve in the tooth so you won't be in pain anymore. There is some pain but it is mostly due to the injections to numb the tooth and jaw strain from keeping your mouth cracked open so long. The pain is a lot less than the original toothache and only lasts a day or so.

im 13 and i just go a root canal! i was so scared but they numb the crap out of u and u cant feel any thing but when they where putting the little fuzzy things or what every in the tooth it kind of got on my nerves because she kept jarring my head


but it didnt hurt at all after they numb u








and i wasnt in that much of pain at all even with out the meds...
Reply:it will be sore for a day or two if that, but it's better than getting an infection down under that cracked tooth.
Reply:If you have a good dentist, no problem. A cap is when they have to remove the enamel and replace the outer covering with gold or ceramic material. A root canal is when the damage is so bad that they have to remove the nerve in the tooth. Considering what the do, it isn't that bad.... good drugs I guess. Getting use to the different shape of the tooth is an interesting experience.
Reply:Yess!! iTs gettin pain foR few dayss .. n root canal does`nt finish in first yyou must visit to the doctor 4 or 5 times ..itss nuthing to scared ..and in root canal they cut the canal which is lie in between root n tooth ... u may go for root canal its safe ..i recommand u
Reply:I had one and the whole process was soooooooo uncomfortable. They insert this toothpick like thing in the hole of your tooth and it feels like they're just grinding and grinding and it doesn't hurt, it's just an awful sound and lots of pressure.


The pain of a root canal is actually from keeping your mouth open for sooooooo long, from the injections, and from the dentist having all those instruments in your mouth. Yes, you'll be sore, but not as much as what you felt with the abscessed tooth!


My dentist didn't even prescribe any painkillers for me. I took advill and tylenol after mine and survived. DO NOT drink through a straw or smoke for 24 hrs after the procedure. A dry socket hurts more than anything!

Reply:You'll be ok, it's not too bad! you won't get a dry socket as you have to extract a tooth for that to happen so no worries there.
