Root canal?
On a root canal the tooth will be "shaped" to accept a crown, it will basically be cut into a pyramid shape. Then the dentist will drill out the root canals, removing the nerves and allowing any abcess to drain. A metal or plastic wire will be placed in the hole, and the crown will be put on.
It is a painful process, and it is a temporary process. The crowns last anywhere from 2-10 years.
Reply:i had a root canal done on one of my teeth and after i had it my tooth was very white and it looked better than it did before!!
Reply:There might be a picture of it on my source, so please look, 'K.
Reply:go to www.ada.org
this is the american dental association website. They have flash pictures to show you what it is.
Reply:they take everything out and they place about 4 needles in every corner of your tooth to kill the nerves and then theres 4 big holes and they later get filled in.
Reply:Don't worry. Your root canal will NOT be left open and exposed. They build up what's left of the tooth with a temporary cap aptly called a "buildup". you can eat on it and eveything while your cap is being made. As a matter of fact, I had TWO root canals done yesterday. I won't say it's a snap, but you can handle it OK and everything will be all right.
Reply:I dont have a picture but they usually fill the hole with a temporary materiel. I think its something like cement.
Reply:The website below kind of gives you an idea of what happens...in the last picture, the purplish part is the crown so imagine what it would look like without one. You can't really get a root canal without getting the tooth crowned...go ahead and spend the money to make it look nice.
Reply:you don't necessarily need crowns on a tooth that has had root canal...crowns are usually put on if tooth is in bad shape and might crack or if fillings are large which weakens tooth....for front teeth you may need crowns since it is hard to fill them after root canal work and not have it show.....
Reply:Three root canals? Time to start brushing your teeth everyday.
Reply:They will not be cometically appealing; I would hope they would put a tempory crown on after the root canal. If not, discuss coordinating the proceedures with the 2 dentist so yu do not have to go without the crown.
Reply:I have no pictures, but i have had root canal on one of my front teeth. Its slightly worse than having a tooth removed but its ok. Root canal is where they sort your tooth root out whether its died etc... The crown is the part they put back in place, to cover and reform your tooth. It will be the same colour as your tooth though, dont worry it won't be black.lol. It will feel slightly weird afterwards though. You'll be fine!!!
Reply:on molars its just a big ole hole--on the front looks like dracula---they grind them down to points---so the crown will slip onto them---take a mirror---its freaky--dont passout when you see the inside of your mouth---not for weak people------oh and why would you have to go to2 different dentists---thats bull--they are just trying to get more insurance money..
Reply:Do some research before you get a root canal. I had one a few years ago and now the thing is abcessed, the tooth itself has split under the gums, and I don't have dental coverage to deal with it any more.
There are new processes out there that will replace your tooth that might even cost less, look just as real, and seem like they might be less likely to cause problems down the road, other than needing replaced.
But yeah, if you have the root canals, you'll probably have temporary crowns that will be loosely cemented on and they'll pop off pretty easily and they're not pleasant to bite into with a bite of food. Or maybe that was just my experience.
Reply:A root canal is something you cannot see except in an x-ray. The dentist may put a temporary filling on top of it, to protect it from sensitivity/damage. If you want to see what a root canal looks like on an x-ray click the link below
